Long Beach’s Transportation
Los Angeles Blue Line subway runs from downtown Los Angeles to Long Beach City Hall, and Long Beach Transit offers public bus service for fared and free routes, such as the Pine Avenue Link and Passport routes, which shuttle you around the downtown area. Long Beach Transit also runs water taxis AquaBus - which travels between the Queen Mary, the Aquarium of the Pacific, and other locations - and the Aqualink - which stops at the Queen Mary, the Aquarium of the Pacific, and the Alamitos Bay Landing. Long Beach has its own airport, the Long Beach Municipal Airport, which is JetBlue’s Los Angeles destination.
The San Diego (405) freeway roughly cuts Long Beach in half and connects to the Golden State (5) freeway. The Long Beach (710) freeway runs north/south and intersects the San Bernardino (10) freeway. At Long Beach’s eastern border is the San Gabriel River (605) freeway, and the Artesia (91) freeway runs near Long Beach’s northern border. The Pacific Coast Highway also runs through Long Beach, north to Santa Monica and beyond.
Long Beach’s Education
Long Beach kindergarten through eighth grade is mostly served by Long Beach Unified School District, which won 2003’s Broad Prize for Urban Education as the top urban school district in the USA. The ABC Unified School District also serves minor parts of Long Beach. Long Beach’s main college is California State University Long Beach (CSULB), and Long Beach is also home to Long Beach City College (LBCC), and vocational private school Brooks College, best known for its fashion programs.
