Here’s some tips to make sure you get your security deposit back when you move out:

• Repair any damages you may have caused while living in your apartment. A little wear and tear is expected, but you should seal any holes you made in the wall if you installed shelves, clean any carpet stains, etc. It’s easier to keep your apartment up as you live there - don’t wait until your last week before move out to try to repair everything.
• Talk to your landlord about which address you would like your security deposit forwarded to. Also, make sure to walk through your apartment with your landlord before moving out and discuss any damages you’re responsible for that should be repaired. Compare your apartment’s current condition to your landlord’s original checklist of the apartment’s condition when you moved in.
• Use your security deposit towards your last month’s rent if this was agreed upon in your lease agreement. Make sure you’re clear with your landlord about your rental security deposit going towards your last month’s rent - don’t assume they’ll remember to credit you appropriately.
• Take your landlord to court if they withhold your security deposit without reason. You’re likely to be successful taking your landlord to court if they didn’t offer you clear documentation of damage to the apartment and the repair costs. Unless your lease states your landlord may withhold your security deposit without reason, they can’t.

Hollywood’s main streets are Santa Monica Blvd. and Sunset Blvd., which run east/west through most of Los Angeles. For years the movie industry ran the Hollywood Professional School, its own private institution for child actors.

Wilshire Blvd. is the core of Los Angeles’ Mid-Wilshire district, which has La Cienega Blvd. on its west boundary, Hoover St. at its east, Melrose Ave. at its north, and the Santa Monica 10 Freeway at its south.

The Miracle Mile - stretching between Fairfax Ave. and La Brea Ave. - is a particularly famous strip of Mid-Wilshire. First developed in the 1920’s, up until the 1960’s the Miracle Mile - knicknamed “America’s Champs-Élysées” - was one of Los Angeles’ most important shopping districts. Today the Miracle Mile is still lined with stores and LA highlights, such as the La Brea Tar Pits and LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art). And while the Miracle Mile is one of Los Angeles’ most densely populated neighborhood, the area is much more upscale than equally crowded areas of Los Angeles, such as Korea Town and West Lake (districts which also run along Wilshire Blvd.).

San Fernando Valley’s Transportation

Los Angeles MTA buses run throughout the San Fernando Valley, and the Orange Line bus runs from Woodland Hill’s Warner Center to North Hollywood’s Red Line subway stop. The Hollywood 101 runs throughout the Valley and connects to major freeways the 405 and 134. Deeper northeast into the valley, you can connect to the 118 Freeway, and near Burbank you can hop o nto the 5 Freeway. In Woodland Hills you can take Topanga Canyon Blvd. over the hills and meet the Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu. From Sherman Oaks you can take Sepulveda Blvd. into Santa Monica and beyond, as an alternative to the usually clogged 405 Freeway. From Studio City, you can take Coldwater Canyon or Laurel Canyon Blvd. over the hills into Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, respectively. Ventura Blvd. also begins in Woodland Hills and ends in North Hollywood, when it merges into Cahuenga Blvd., which will drop you off in the heart of Hollywood.

San Fernando Valley’s Education

San Fernando Valley’s public schools are part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, and many elementary and high schools are noted for their academic excellence (El Camino Real High School is especially known for its long waiting list to get in and for its multiple wins at the United States Academic Decathalon). Northridge is home to California State University Northridge (CSUN) and Woodland Hills has Los Angeles Pierce College, a community college with a high transfer rate into the University of California system and a noted agricultural department.
